'Digital Factory' sees double-digit growth

Siemens has announced its figures for the second quarter of fiscal year 2018: Group-wide, comparable sales were on a par with the previous year. Broken down into the individual business units, 'Digital Factory' recorded the highest growth.

Siemens CEO Joe Kaeser: "Most of our businesses, especially our digital offerings, showed impressive strength in the second quarter and were able to more than offset the structural challenges of fossil power generation in operational terms."

Specifically, Siemens generated revenue of €20.1 billion in the second quarter of 2018. At €22.3 billion, order intake was 2% lower than in the previous year. On a comparable basis - i.e. excluding currency translation and portfolio effects - order intake fell by 1%. The result of the industrial business amounted to €2.3 billion and was thus 8% lower than in the previous year. According to Siemens CEO Joe Kaeser, this was primarily due to the market-driven decline in earnings of €325 million in the Power and Gas (PG) segment.
