Edge Computing / Industry 4.0
Kontron and NXP Semiconductors cooperate
Kontron and NXP Semiconductors want to work together on the development of Industry 4.0 solutions. To this end, NXP's ARM-based i.MX and Layerscape processors will be combined with Kontron and S&T's expertise in hardware and software.
"Industry 4.0 solutions require more intelligence and efficiency 'at the edge'. ARM-based SoCs, such as NXP 's i.MX and Layerscape families, are specifically designed to deliver greater power and performance efficiencies for these applications," said Drew Henry, senior vice president and general manager, Infrastructure Business, ARM. "We are accelerating the realization of the vision by equipping everyone involved in Industry 4.0 projects with technologies that are integrated with system solutions from vendors like Kontron." The products are based on 'Microsoft Azure IoT' and TSN technology to meet the requirements of next-generation IoT implementations for cloud and edge computing as well as innovations on the factory floor.
Among the new Industry 4.0 solutions targeted are Kontron's i.MX-based SMARC 2.0 and Q7 Computer-on-Modules. In addition, Kontron plans to launch modules with Layerscape SoCs including LS1028 later this year to support its own Industry 4.0 edge gateways as well as designs from Kontron customers. "With these computer-on-module and edge gateway solutions, Kontron is accelerating prototyping for customers and time-to-market for projects using the latest technologies from NXP," said Laurent Remont, CTO of Kontron and S&T.
