VDMA blockchain committee founded

After the events on blockchain organized by the VDMA's IT department met with a great response, the association founded a blockchain committee. The aim is to intensify the exchange between colleagues.

The purpose of the meeting of nine company representatives on July 8 was to discuss the use of blockchain in the industry. This gave rise to the Blockchain Committee, which will initially meet in this circle on an ad hoc basis. "Companies have recognized that blockchain offers previously untapped potential for the digitalization of business processes thanks to tamper-proof and traceable transactions," explains Prof. Claus Oetter, Managing Director of VDMA Software and Digitalization and Head of the IT department.

It is therefore no wonder that last year's events on this topic met with a high level of response from VDMA members. This showed that both software and digitalization companies as well as traditional mechanical and plant engineering companies have activities and application examples relating to blockchain technology. "The launch of the new committee now provides an organizational framework for the significant increase in interest," says Oetter.

The committee will deal with strategic decisions on the application of the technology, in particular when, whether and for which problems the technology is superior to previous solutions. According to Oetter, the expert group will serve to establish a collegial exchange and enable even more intensive topic processing. Networking is also to be promoted, according to Oetter.
