Resilience Enhancements in Heterogeneous TSN Networks with Traffic Policing
by Johannes Specht, Specht ICT
Abstract
Broader application ranges in converged networks can increase the presence of heterogeneous traffic with mixed criticality, which raises the needs for effective mechanisms protecting against disruptive network traffic from misbehaving devices. The TSN toolbox provides multiple policing mechanisms intended for this purpose in different systems (e.g., automotive in-vehicle or aviation). This presentation provides insights into needs, function and practical use of the TSN policing mechanisms, and shows relationships with the TSN shaping & scheduling mechanisms.
The Speaker
Johannes Specht is an independent consultant, researcher and TSN expert. His main areas of interest are deterministic information and communication technologies, dependable computing systems, and Software-defined Networking. Johannes started his professional career in 2003 in the automotive industry with the focus on real-time communication systems, testing, and functional safety. He contributed to IEEE 802.1 standardization projects on real-time traffic scheduling, reliability, fault tolerance, time synchronization and configuration since the designation of the IEEE 802.1 TSN task group more than a decade ago.
Johannes is the vice-chair of the IEEE 802 Network Enhancements for the Next Decade Industry Connectivity Activity (IEEE 802 Nendica), secretary of the IEEE 802.1 TSN task group, editor of IEEE Stds 802.1Qcr-2020: Asynchronous Traffic Shaping (ATS), and editor of IEEE project P802.1DU: Cut-Through Forwarding Bridges and Bridged Networks.
