TSN-based Factory Backbone for vPLCs – Best Practices and Experiences
by Philipp Neher and Florian Frick | ISW - University of Stuttgart
Abstract
Virtualized controllers are a key trend in the manufacturing industry. A major challenge is the connectivity to the field level. TSN is an enabler for the required IT/OT-convergence. The presentation highlights the TSN backbone concept, connecting vPLCs and fieldbus- and TSN-based devices, shows how different TSN mechanisms can be used and evaluates the performance. Pragmatic approaches for the configuration of the network, virtualized platforms, vPLCs and field devices are presented.
