Abstract

Fault-tolerant time synchronization is crucial within converged 6G-TSN networks, particularly for future industrial automation scenarios that demand deterministic communication. We present a comparison of hot standby (IEEE 802.1ASdm) with BTCA to enable fault tolerant time synchronization for converged networks. We also introduce our OMNeT++ simulation framework used for the analysis and explore various industrial automation use cases that stand to benefit from the adoption of a hot standby GM.

The Speakers

  • Dr. Mahin Ahmed(Member, IEEE) received the M.Sc. degree in mobile communications from Sejong University, Seoul, South Korea, in 2014, and the Dr. Techn. (Ph.D.) degree in information technology from the University of Klagenfurt, Austria, in 2021. From 2015 to 2019, she was a Research and Teaching Staff Member with the University of Klagenfurt. Her Ph.D. thesis focused on interference dynamics in wireless networks. Currently, she is working as a Senior Scientist at Silicon Austria Labs (SAL), Linz, Austria. Her research interests include wireless networks, stochastic modeling, industrial wireless networks, wireless time-sensitive networking, and 5G/6G systems. She is a member of IEEE 3388 and IEEE 802.1 WGs.
  • Lucas Haug is a PhD student at the Institute of Parallel and Distributed Systems (IPVS) at University of Stuttgart, Germany. His research is focused on robust ”wireless-friendly” scheduling for converged 6G-TSN networks.
