Martin Ruskowski succeeds Detlef Zühlke
On June 1, Dr. Martin Ruskowski will take over from Dr. Detlef Zühlke as head of the "Innovative Factory Systems" research department at DFKI in Kaiserslautern and the former Chair of Production Automation (PAK) at TU Kaiserslautern.
Engineer Dr. Martin Ruskowski studied electrical engineering at Leibniz University in Hanover, where he completed his doctorate in mechanical engineering. In his doctoral thesis, he dealt with the dynamics of machine tools and the use of active magnetic guides to suppress vibrations. After holding several management positions in industry, he has been Vice President at the technology group Kuka since 2015 and was responsible for the global Research and Development division in Kuka's Industries Group until his move to Kaiserslautern.
Dr. Martin Ruskowski will take up a professorship in the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at the newly named Chair of Machine Tools and Controls (WSKL) at the TU. His research focuses on industrial robots as machine tools, artificial intelligence in automation technology and innovative control concepts for automation. Ruskowski says of his new field of work at the TU and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence: "As part of the digitalization of production, we need new technologies and solutions that connect people more closely with the production process. One focus of my work will be to equip robots for demanding mechanical processing tasks."
Professor Dr. Wolfgang Wahlster, CEO and Scientific Director of DFKI: "DFKI's Innovative Factory Systems research department has developed into an international pilgrimage site for Industry 4.0 under Zühlke's leadership with SmartFactory KL. I am convinced that we will continue this success story with Mr. Ruskowski as his successor. In particular, the issue of cooperation between several robots and several skilled workers in hybrid teams can provide further impetus for growth in the future."
