Intel takes over Mobileye

In summer 2016, BMW, Intel and Mobileye announced their partnership to bring autonomous driving solutions to production maturity for the mass market by 2021. Intel now wants to acquire its partner Mobileye for 15.3 billion US dollars (around 14 billion euros).

In order to offer a wide range of technologies for automated driving, Intel is now buying the Israeli company Mobileye.

Intel is paying USD 63.54 per share for the Israeli company Mobileye, which was founded in 1999, for a total of USD 15.3 billion. The transaction is expected to be completed within this year. It still requires the approval of the relevant regulatory authorities.

The Israeli company Mobileye develops driver assistance systems that use camera systems and software to recognize vehicles and warn of collisions. In the cooperation with BMW and Intel on autonomous driving entered into in 2016, Mobileye is contributing the EyeQ-5 SoC for image recognition and will also develop the artificial intelligence software for vehicle control.
