5G-Automotive Association launched
Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ericsson, Huawei, Intel, Nokia and Qualcomm have now founded the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA). The association is open to further partners.
With future 5G mobile networks and the further development of LTE, which also includes cellular vehicle-to-everything communication (C-V2X), the Internet of Things and the digitalization of industry are moving into the focus of information and communication technology. As a further development of today's networks, next-generation mobile networks will be able to process a far greater volume of data, connect significantly more devices, reduce latency times and achieve a new level of network stability. 5G, for example, will improve the decisive communication basis for greater road safety, extended vehicle-to-everything communication and networked mobility solutions.
The members of the 5G Automotive Association want to work closely together to make the most of the new technical and associated business potential for the automotive and information and communication industries. The association focuses on key technical and regulatory issues. The aim is to make the best possible use of the opportunities offered by new generations of mobile technology and to optimally connect, network and integrate vehicle platforms.
The future tasks of the 5GAA include, for example
- Defining and coordinating use cases, technical requirements and implementation strategies,
- supporting standardization and regulatory bodies as well as certification and approval processes,
- addressing technical vehicle-to-everything requirements such as wireless connectivity, security, data protection, authentication or cloud architecture
- develop holistic solutions in joint innovation and development projects, carry out compatibility tests as well as extensive pilot projects and test deployments.
The 5G Automotive Association works globally and is open to other partners from the information and communications industry, the automotive industry and other areas of the vehicle and road transportation sector.
