Time Sensitive Networking

Meinrad Happacher,

"The" TSN Congress

Time Sensitive Networking - TSN for short - is a real-time extension of standard Ethernet. The effects on all sectors - from industry and automotive to the consumer world - will be the focus of the TSN/A Conference on September 20-21, 2017 in Stuttgart.

TSN will establish itself as a real-time Ethernet standard faster than many communication specialists would like. At SPS IPC Drives 2016, for example, eleven leading IT and automation technology providers have already committed to promoting OPC UA via TSN as a communication solution in industrial applications. TSN-capable products for industrial automation have been announced for this year. The situation is similar in the automotive industry and the audio/video sector. One example: autonomous driving (Level 3) is also set to become a reality this year using TSN.

With the TSN/A Conference on September 20/21, 2017, Computer&AUTOMATION and AVNU will get to the bottom of the exciting and often controversial questions surrounding TNS in the run-up to SPS IPC Drives: Is TSN technology needed in the industrial environment? How quickly can/will TSN establish itself in the factory? What can/should machine builders and end users demand from automation companies in this regard? What roadmap are semiconductor manufacturers pursuing? How will TSN be used in vehicle construction?

The international TSN/A Conference, a joint event of the Avnu Alliance and Computer&AUTOMATION, has its roots in two separate conferences to date: the TSNA Conference (last held on April 28-29, 2016), organized by the Avnu Alliance in Santa Clara, USA, and the Industrial Ethernet TSN Conference (September 27, 2016), organized by Computer&AUTOMATION in Stuttgart, Germany.

The program of the TSN/A Conference 2017 is available online.
