Open business platform
Siemens launches Xcelerator
Xcelerator is Siemens' open digital business platform designed to help customers in the fields of industry, buildings, networks and mobility to accelerate their digital transformation. At the same time, the Group announces the acquisition of Brightly.
The open digital business platform Xcelerator from Siemens comprises the following cornerstones:
- A selected portfolio of hardware for the Internet of Things (IoT),
- software and digital offerings from Siemens and certified third-party providers,
- a continuously evolving partner ecosystem, and
- a marketplace designed to facilitate interactions and transactions between customers, partners and developers.
With the introduction of Siemens Xcelerator, the Group is transforming itself: the entire hardware and software portfolio will gradually be modularized and connected to the cloud. In addition, standard interfaces (Application Programming Interfaces, APIs) will be used in future. In addition, strong technical and commercial governance ensures compliance with the highest quality standards and values for all parties involved. The offerings from Siemens and third-party providers will be adapted to the design criteria of interoperability, flexibility, openness and "as-a-service" use.
IIoT solutions are integrated
All of the Group's IIoT solutions are to be integrated into the Xcelerate platform as "Industrial Operations X". This includes solutions and applications from the sensor to the edge to the cloud, IoT "as-a-Service", the option to develop low-code and a wide range of ready-to-use applications. "Industrial Operations X" is intended to enable the fusion of data from the real world of automation with the digital world of information technology. This is further enriched with Siemens' vertical IT/OT integration knowledge and capabilities. Breaking down data silos helps companies to increase performance, productivity, flexibility and sustainability, according to the company.
As the first SaaS offering for its business platform, however, Siemens is announcing the new smart building suite "Building X", which acts as a central reference source (single source of truth, SSOT). This is an end-to-end data and analysis suite that breaks down data silos in areas such as energy management, security and building maintenance - modular, fully cloud-based and open. It also offers applications based on artificial intelligence (AI), connectivity and integrated cyber security.
CEO Roland Busch on the business platform: "Siemens Xcelerator makes it easier than ever for companies to navigate the digital transformation in a faster and more scalable way. By connecting the real and digital worlds in operational and information technology, we enable customers and partners to increase their productivity and competitiveness and drive innovation. We are evolving our market-leading portfolio into open applications, with more cloud-based solutions, 'as-a-service' usage and IoT-enabled hardware that can be constantly updated. At the same time, collaboration with partners is being taken to a new level as part of a constantly growing ecosystem."
Purchase of Brightly Software
At the same time, on Monday, June 27, 2022, Siemens announced an agreement to acquire Brightly Software, a leading US-based asset and maintenance management software company. The acquisition will combine Brightly's established solutions in several key industries with Siemens' digital and software expertise in building technology. The transaction is a key element of Siemens Xcelerator's portfolio in the buildings sector.
