Siemens buys software provider
Siemens acquires software specialist Brightly for more than 1.5 billion US dollars. The company offers software as a service for plant and maintenance management.
With the takeover, Siemens aims to achieve a leading position in the software market for buildings and existing infrastructure, as the Munich-based company announced on Monday (June 27). The transaction is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
Specifically, the US company will cost 1.575 billion dollars (around 1.5 billion euros) plus a performance-related component. The company offers software as a service for plant and maintenance management.
"The acquisition will enable us to achieve our goal of becoming a leading software company in the infrastructure sector more quickly," said Siemens CEO Matthias Rebellius. "It supports our vision of creating fully autonomous buildings that continuously learn from the people living in them and adapt to their needs."
According to Siemens, Brightly expects a turnover of 180 million US dollars for the current year. It employs around 800 software experts and is based in the US state of North Carolina.
