Mechanical engineers against the general obligation to wear masks at work

The mechanical engineering association VDMA has spoken out against a general obligation to wear masks in the workplace.

"As there is not a lot of public traffic in the mechanical engineering sector, such as in stores or restaurants, we do not believe that a general obligation to wear masks at the workplace makes sense," said VDMA Managing Director Thilo Brodtmann recently in Frankfurt. In mechanical engineering companies, the usual distancing rules would apply as everywhere else, "and where they cannot be observed, the mask requirement would of course also apply".
