Sharp drop in production in NRW industry
Industry in North Rhine-Westphalia had to cope with a sharp drop in production in the first half of this year.
Companies* in the manufacturing industry produced goods worth 131.5 billion euros, according to the State Statistical Office on Friday.
This was 11.7 percent less than in the first half of 2019, with a particularly sharp drop of 20.9 percent in the metal industry. Manufacturers of food and animal feed, on the other hand, recorded an increase in production of 2.9%.
According to the statisticians' figures, the production restrictions caused by the coronavirus crisis have been particularly noticeable since April. While the value of goods fell by 3.5 percent in the first quarter compared to the same period last year, the decline in the second quarter was 19.9 percent.
*The figures refer to companies with generally 20 or more employees.
