Pulse
Work 4.0 in the German SME sector
Motivated employees are what every employer wants. One possible approach to keeping employees happy is to create a contemporary working environment. The power supply company Puls shows how this works.
Forced to relocate, the medium-sized company Puls made the best of the situation. The electricity supply company took its time to find a new company headquarters and, above all, to design the new premises.
The employees were heavily involved in the design of the working environment, their interests and needs were precisely recorded and taken into account, and a prototype room and platforms for collecting ideas were set up in the new rooms, where employees could test furniture and lighting concepts and examine floor coverings. They were also given the opportunity to comment on sketches by architects and carpenters and follow the progress of the project on whiteboards. Feedback was welcome at any time. In this way, the experience gained and suggestions made by the employees could flow directly into the development phase of the new offices.
In addition, the workplace concepts of other companies were analyzed in order to gather further inspiration and avoid common mistakes. Puls found an architect who had already designed several Google Workplaces. You can see this in the result. Numerous small meeting rooms and discussion corners in various designs and with different levels of comfort have been created. These do not need to be booked and are available for spontaneous discussions at any time. For larger meetings with the entire workforce or for customer events, one room has been equipped with a huge LED wall - including amphitheater-style seating.
Many of the walls in the new working environment can be written on or are magnetic, which is intended to encourage creativity. Concentrated individual work has also been considered, which is why every employee still has their own personal desk.
Employees should find even more peace and quiet in other retreats, for example in the library, which is currently still under construction. A nap room with a massage chair and relaxation chair allows for relaxation phases.
