Weidmüller
Largest single investment in the company's history
Weidmüller is making the largest single investment in the company's history: a new logistics center is being built not far from Eisenach on a site measuring over 72,000 square meters.
Construction work on the new logistics center has been underway since autumn 2020 and is scheduled for completion in 2022. With this investment in the double-digit million range, the family-owned company is setting the course for further growth and more customer service in the area of shipping.
The logistics center is being built around 10 km from the Weidmüller site in Thuringia (TWG), with what the company describes as optimal connections to the plant itself, the freeway and short distances to the two most important German freight airports in Frankfurt and Leipzig. It will be the global transshipment point for all products from the plants in Germany, Romania and the Czech Republic. Chief Sales Officer Dr. Timo Berger explains: "In order to meet the increasing dynamics of our markets, we need to further optimize all supply chains. Digitalization and networking play an important role in this. With a new logistics concept, we can implement these requirements - from our suppliers' shipping to our customers' incoming goods - in a targeted and optimal way."
Despite the pandemic and uncertainty in 2020, postponing this construction project was not an option. "Now more than ever, we have to think about the time after the crisis and the incoming changes and align our actions accordingly," Berger continues. As a medium-sized family business, Weidmüller is planning the company's development for the long term. The construction is also necessary to enable further growth at the plant in Thuringia. "The upward trend that we already saw in the fourth quarter of last year is continuing, which is why the first business figures for 2021 are also extremely promising," says Berger. "We are optimistic about the coming months, hope for rapid progress in containing the pandemic worldwide and expect our markets to develop positively over the next few years."
