Hybrid switch
Housing only 36 mm wide
Wöhner presents Omus, an electronic hybrid switch for resistive loads. It offers hybrid technology with adjustable current monitoring, integrated fuses for short-circuit protection and a safe energy supply via the supplier's 'CrossLink' adapter technology.
In some industrial sectors, machines are used in which heaters have to be switched on and off very precisely and at high frequency. Up to now, solutions with purely mechanical contacts (contactor) or with semiconductor technology (solid state relay) have been used to switch these resistive loads. The hybrid switch from Wöhner combines the advantages of both technologies in a housing that is only 36 mm wide. It can be used in ranges up to 25 A continuous current. The device combines low-wear semiconductor technology with mechanical contacts. The switch-on or switch-off process takes place at the most favorable time at the zero crossing of the voltage within a maximum of 30 ms. During the switching process of the hybrid technology, the semiconductor contacts switch first. Immediately afterwards, the parallel mechanical contacts also close wear-free, so that the semiconductor contacts can open again immediately, resulting in hardly any heat loss during the switching process. Depending on the clock frequency, up to 66 % waste heat can be avoided. The hybrid switch therefore does not require a heat sink. The maximum switching frequency is 1 Hz due to the switching sequence and to avoid excessive heating. The hybrid switch enables either 3-pole use or the switching of all 3 phases individually in one device.
