According to the latest survey by the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg (ZSW), the Middle Kingdom remains the undisputed world leader with 2.6 million electric cars. It is followed by the USA with 1.1 million. In Germany, just under 142,000 electric cars are now on the roads. According to the scientists, most of the new registrations are from Tesla. This is followed by the Chinese brands BYD and BAIC. Two German car manufacturers are also among the top manufacturers of newly registered electric cars in 5th and 9th place. The figures in detail:

The ZSW scientists recorded passenger cars and light commercial vehicles with exclusively battery-electric drives or with range extenders as well as plug-in hybrids - in other words, all vehicles that can be "refueled" with electricity. They did not include full and mild hybrid vehicles or vehicles with fuel cell technology, for which no reliable statistics are yet available due to the small numbers involved. The analysis is based on data from the Federal Motor Transport Authority and international authorities and associations, among others.
