Günter Herkommer,

3rd record year in a row

With a turnover of 913 million euros or growth of around 13%, Italian drive specialist Bonfiglioli recorded a record year for the third time in a row in 2018. In terms of regions, the emphasis continued to shift towards China, India and the USA.

Bonfiglioli currently has 3700 employees in 17 countries worldwide, 1450 of whom work in Italy. Production facilities are located in 14 countries.

In terms of products, Bonfiglioli generated around 45% of sales last year with drives for mobile machinery and around 13% with drives for wind turbines. The rest of the turnover was generated by drives for industrial applications. In the field of mobile construction machinery, Bonfiglioli claims to have grown 6 to 7% faster than the market worldwide in the last two years. In the USA, China and India, turnover has cumulatively doubled in the last two years.

At the end of 2018, the Italians completed the takeover of O&K Antriebstechnik GmbH in Hattingen and thus became the sole owner of the German company. Since Bonfiglioli's first investment in 2015, O&K's turnover has increased from EUR 36 million to around EUR 71 million in 2018. The positive trend is expected to continue in 2019, partly due to a new and more efficient product design and the development of new applications in the marine and offshore sectors.
