Musk sleeps in Tesla factory

More automation than usual: Tesla wants to produce the Model 3 under this credo - and is now lagging well behind in terms of deliveries. That is why Tesla boss Elon Musk wants to personally take care of the progress in production.

Tesla is still lagging behind the production schedule for the Model 3. That's why Elon Musk wants to set up his sleeping quarters in the factory - if the problems there make him think about sleep at all: The car business is hell anyway, he says.

At the moment, he does not want to leave the supervision to production boss Doug Field alone. "Now it's time to divide and conquer," the 46-year-old Tesla boss wrote on Twitter. He will also be setting up camp in the Tesla factory again. "The car business is hell," wrote Musk.

The Silicon Valley portal 'The Information' had previously reported that Musk had taken control of the production of the first Tesla model for a larger group of buyers, which had so far been unsatisfactory. Tesla is currently struggling with the fact that production of the Model 3 has been repeatedly set back by breakdowns and is therefore significantly slower than planned.

Industry observers doubt that the already postponed target of 2500 vehicles per week will be reached by the end of March. Originally, the company wanted to reach 5000 Model 3 vehicles per week by the end of 2017, but this target has now been pushed back to the end of June. Tesla opted for even more automated production than usual for the Model 3 - and it takes longer to set up the machines, according to reports.
