German Trade Fair
Hannover Messe opens
The world's most important industrial show opens in Hanover on Sunday evening (18:00). The organizers are also expecting Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and the Prime Minister of the partner country Portugal, António Costa, to attend.
After a total cancellation due to coronavirus in 2020 and a greatly reduced program in 2021, the Hannover Messe is back this year as a presence format, albeit later than usual and in a shortened form of four full days.
From Monday to Thursday inclusive, around 2,500 exhibitors will be showcasing their innovations and concepts on the grounds in the capital of Lower Saxony - including industry giants such as Bosch and Siemens, tech companies such as Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, SAP and Google, as well as many SMEs and start-ups. According to Deutsche Messe, 600 participants registered for the conference program.
The focus is on climate protection and digitalization in various manufacturing technologies, logistics and mobility. In view of the war in Ukraine and disrupted supply chains, energy supply and energy security are also likely to be key issues.
Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens), Lower Saxony's Minister President Stephan Weil (SPD), Federal Research Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger (SPD), the President of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA), Karl Haeusgen, and Hanover's Lord Mayor Belit Onay (Greens) are also planning to attend the opening.
