On June 30, Yaskawa opened a new European robotics distribution center and an additional assembly hall for robotic welding systems in Kočevje, Slovenia. Among those attending the opening were Hiroshi Ogasawara, Chairman of Yaskawa Electric Corporation; Pär Tornemo, CEO of Yaskawa Europe GmbH; Slovenian Minister of Economic Development Dr. Anže Logar; and Japanese Ambassador Akiko Yoshida.

With this investment of approximately 32 million euros, the company will consolidate the processing and delivery of robot orders for the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) going forward.

According to the company, by the 2027 fiscal year, at least 80 percent of orders from the EMEA region are expected to be processed through the Kočevje facility. At the same time, the production area will grow to more than 30,000 square meters as a result of the expansion.

Pär Tornemo explained: “Given the current global economic conditions, customers in Europe and beyond are benefiting particularly strongly from short supply chains. At our robot plant in Kočevje, we can now offer this advantage, especially for large and very large robotic welding systems.”

According to the company, the new distribution center is also expected to improve logistics processes and efficiency throughout the supply chain.

The expansion of the facility is part of Yaskawa's European growth strategy. The company aims to further strengthen its position as a manufacturer of industrial robots in Europe.

Yaskawa's first European robot factory began operations in Kočevje in 2018. As early as 1996, the company founded Yaskawa Ristro in nearby Ribnica, which has since also been relocated to Kočevje.

According to the company, a production facility for Motoman industrial robots, as well as for fixtures, components, and accessories for plant engineering, has been established in Kočevje in recent years. Third-party options and add-ons are also manufactured there.
