Weidmüller has held the official groundbreaking ceremony for a new Asian headquarters in Suzhou, China. According to the company, this is the largest investment in its history outside of Germany. Weidmüller has had a presence in China for more than 30 years.

Among those attending the ceremony were André Sombecki, Chief Financial Officer of the Weidmüller Group; Lance Zhao, Executive Vice President for the Asia region; representatives from the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) and the German Chamber of Commerce in East China; and approximately 100 representatives from industry, partner companies, and customers.

The new facility is intended to consolidate key functions—such as manufacturing, research and development, logistics, engineering, and training and customer service centers—in a single location. Together with the existing production facility in Suzhou, the new headquarters is expected to strengthen regional value creation in the future.

“With the largest investment in our company’s history outside of Germany, we are specifically strengthening local value creation and laying the groundwork for further growth in one of our most important markets. The project is a logical step in our strategy to be close to our customers worldwide and to localize development, production, and decision-making processes more strongly,” said André Sombecki, Chief Financial Officer of Weidmüller and responsible for Asia.

Production capacity is expected to triple

In the first phase of expansion, a facility covering an area of approximately 40,000 square meters will be built. According to the company, the production capacity of the Suzhou site is expected to more than triple upon completion.

In addition, Weidmüller plans to further expand the Qilin product brand—developed for the Asian market—and scale up production at the new location. The solutions developed and manufactured there are intended to serve both the Asian market and other regions.
