ABB joins the 'FIA Formula E'
The Swiss technology group ABB is involved in all-electric motorsport - as title sponsor of the new 'ABB FIA Formula E Championship'.
Formula E has been regarded as the number one in international electric motorsport since the first race in September 2014. In addition to its role as the new title sponsor, ABB also wants to contribute its technological experience in the development of electrification solutions. The Formula E racing series offers a competitive platform for the development and testing of electromobility-related electrification and digitalization technologies. It thus helps to improve the design and functionality of electric vehicles and accelerate the further development of the infrastructure and associated digital platforms.
As a provider of electromobility solutions, ABB covers the entire spectrum of charging technologies for electric cars as well as electric and hybrid buses and also offers solutions for the electrification of ships and trains. ABB entered the electric charging market in 2010 and has since installed a rapidly growing network of more than 6,000 fast charging stations worldwide.
The ABB FIA Formula E Championship is a road racing series organized by the FIA and the world's first all-electric international single-seater motorsport series. Formula E makes stops in the world's most important cities, such as New York, Hong Kong, Paris and Zurich. In the fourth year of the racing series, 20 drivers from ten teams will compete for the title in eleven cities on five continents. The next race will take place on January 13 in Marrakesh. The 2018 racing season ends in July.
