'Digital Factory' is growing the fastest
Siemens has announced its figures for fiscal year 2017, which ended on September 30. The frontrunner in terms of turnover: the 'Digital Factory' division with an increase of 9% on a comparable basis - i.e. excluding currency translation and portfolio effects.
"Our global team achieved outstanding results in fiscal year 2017, even exceeding the historic success of the previous year. Most businesses are stronger than ever, but we still have structural challenges to overcome in individual businesses," said Joe Kaeser, summarizing the development of the past fiscal year 2017 at the Siemens Annual Shareholders' Meeting on November 9.
Specifically, the Group was able to increase its revenue in real terms by 4% to €83 billion in the past fiscal year, while order intake of €85.7 billion was 1% below the high level of the previous year - despite a continued sharp decline in the Power and Gas Division's markets, which recorded major orders from Egypt totaling €4.7 billion in the previous year. On a comparable basis, sales revenue rose by 3% and incoming orders fell by 2%. The Group's order backlog totaled 126 billion euros. In terms of earnings, Siemens was able to increase its industrial business by 8% to €9.5 billion. The profit margin reached 11.2%, with the majority of businesses at or above their target range, according to Kaeser.
