IT security pays best
According to a recent compensation study by Compensation Partner, both managers and specialists in IT functions can look forward to higher salaries. Among managers, the IT manager stands out in particular.
For positions with personnel responsibility, the increase is 3.8% and for specialists 3.5%. The best gross annual salary is 75,600 euros in the field of IT security. This is followed by IT project management and SAP consulting. At the lower end of the salary scale are system and network administration and user support.
The top location for IT is Frankfurt am Main: the salary level in the city is 21.4% higher than the national average. Munich follows close behind with a salary level of 20.4% above the national average.
Among managers, the IT manager stands out and takes first place with an annual income of 145,300 euros. IT security is the most lucrative field for professionals and specialists, with experts earning just under 74,600 euros a year. This is closely followed by the salaries of IT project managers (72,500 euros) and SAP consultants (72,100 euros).
Influencing factor financial statements
With a Bachelor's degree, employees can earn around €53,300 per year, which is around €4,800 more than those who have completed an apprenticeship. Employees with a diploma from a university of applied sciences make a bigger leap. They receive an average annual income of 69,200 euros - around 16,000 euros more than Bachelor's graduates. Employees with a Master's degree receive a salary of 60,900 euros and doctoral students earn the most at 75,900 euros per year.
Influencing factor number of employees
The number of employees in a company also has a major influence on the salary structure in the IT sector. The larger the company, the higher the salary. In small companies with fewer than 101 employees, specialists receive an average annual income of 49,700 euros. Medium-sized companies pay around 10,000 euros more. Specialists from large companies with over 1,001 employees receive an average salary of around 77,900 euros. The same applies to managers - they receive 98,600 euros a year in small companies and just under 133,000 euros a year in large companies.
Influencing factor professional experience
Another important factor is the professional experience of the respective employee: with three to six years of practical experience, specialists in the IT industry earn around 50,900 euros per year and with seven to ten years, 54,000 euros. Those who have worked in the industry for more than ten years earn an average annual salary of 66,300 euros.
Around 26% of specialists and 63% of managers in the IT sector have a bonus scheme. This bonus amounts to an average of 7,200 euros per year for employees without personnel responsibility and 23,900 euros per year for managers. 45% of all IT managers can look forward to a company car, the average value of which is 50,800 euros.
This time, 35 companies from the IT industry took part in the study, providing a total of 910 data sets. A further 10,465 data records came from direct surveys of specialists and managers. This means that a total of 11,375 data records were included in the study. There were 769 reports on management positions and 10,606 reports on technical and specialist positions.
