BiSS Association
Users found user organization
There is now an independent user organization for the BiSS bidirectional sensor interface, the "BiSS Association" - with an Internet platform where providers of BiSS solutions can present and exchange information.
At the founding meeting of the BiSS Association (from left to right): H. Essinger (Elgo), T. Scholl (Faulhaber), Dr. M. Löken (Fraba), C. Tessari and H. Schilling (TR-Electronic), J. Urlaub (Fritz Kübler), Chairman of the Board Dr. H. Flocke (iC-Haus), T. Hanß (Wachendorff), board member J. Paulus (Fraba), R. Berger (Kollmorgen), H. Unverricht (Balluff), D. Kleiner (Baumer IVO), Dr. M. Linden and treasurer A. Ehnert (Hengstler).
© BiSS AssociationOn September 28, eleven participants founded the "BiSS Association", which will present itself at the members' stands at SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg. These currently include sensor, encoder and drive manufacturers who, as BiSS users, are now also implementing "BiSS Line" with the BiSS safety protocol.
"BiSS Line" uses standard components available on the market for cables and connectors and transmits the 8B10B-coded BiSS data via RS485 PHYs in familiar 2- or 4-wire technology. The transmission speed is 12.5 MBaud. According to the BiSS Association, "BiSS Line" offers unique selling points as an open source interface and through the bus structure for multiple slaves. Another important feature is the implementation of Forward Error Correction (FEC) as a prerequisite for high availability of data communication, even via EMC-disturbed and inferior cable and plug connections. The BiSS Association believes that availability in an environment with interference (robustness) will determine the acceptance of 1-cable technologies.
On the Internet platform http://www.biss-interface.com, association members can exchange information and report on their solutions and offers for the BiSS interface. These include evaluation boards as master and slave PHYs, hardware components (ICs, FPGAs, smart sensors), IPs, documents, licenses and services, sensor systems and encoders through to complete drive solutions.
The association also recruits new members internationally and offers non-members open access for their offers and inquiries relating to the BiSS interface via the exchange platform.
The BiSS interface introduced by iC-Haus in 2002 has now been licensed over 450 times free of charge. BiSS is bus-compatible and is characterized by continuous communication of sensor and parameter data, especially in motor control. The BiSS safety protocol is TÜV-certified. Under the name "BiSS Line", the user group for the unmodified BiSS protocol developed a transmission method using 1-cable technology, and the successful technical implementation of "BiSS Line" prompted the establishment of an independent user organization with an Internet platform.
