Fraunhofer Vision Alliance

Newest member comes from acoustics

The Fraunhofer IDMT is expanding Allianz Vision to include an entirely new field of expertise.

The Fraunhofer IDMT specializes in acoustic quality testing and is therefore the "listener" among the "observers" at Allianz Vision.

14 members of the Vision Alliance have their core competence in optical metrology, image processing or machine vision. The 15th member no longer fits into this pattern. The Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology (IDMT) combines sound analysis with machine learning processes and thus offers new methods for contactless, acoustic quality assurance for industrial production. Joining the alliance expands the field of expertise to include acoustic quality testing.

Alliance manager Michael Sackewitz sees the move as "absolutely sensible", as acoustic analysis can often be used where optical methods reach their limits today. This can be the case, for example, if the sensors cannot get close enough to the test part or the machine or if test parts are already installed.

The alliance vision serves to exchange knowledge and experience from different areas of expertise and to cooperate on projects. The aim is to make new methods from image processing and non-contact measuring and testing technology usable under industrial conditions.
