Sensirion
Micro gas analyzer specialist Qmicro acquired
Sensirion Holding, a provider of gas and liquid flow and environmental sensors, completes the acquisition of Qmicro, an OEM provider of miniaturized gas analysis technologies.
Qmicro, based in Enschede, the Netherlands, develops, manufactures and supplies micro gas analyzers based on microelectromechanical (MEMS) gas chromatography (GC) technology. Qmicro's most important areas of application include industrial process control and the characterization of natural gas and biogas.
With this acquisition, Sensirion is expanding its gas sensor portfolio from components and modules to stand-alone micro gas analyzers for industrial applications. Many industrial applications require high selectivity and accuracy in the measurement of gas composition. Micro gas chromatography technology makes it possible to determine the components of gas mixtures very selectively and accurately.
Qmicro was founded in 2013, has 16 employees and offers compact, easy-to-use micro gas analyzers. Combined with Sensirion's expertise in MEMS, industrialization and the development of cost-efficient sensor solutions, further miniaturization and integration is possible.
Core applications for Qmicro's analyzers include determining the calorific value of natural gas in distribution networks, monitoring the composition of gas mixtures used in industrial processes and, in the future, environmental monitoring.
"Sensirion warmly welcomes all Qmicro employees and looks forward to further expanding the Enschede site as a competence center for micro gas analyzers," says Marc von Waldkirch, CEO of Sensirion.
