Endress+Hauser acquires

Endress+Hauser has acquired SensAction, a manufacturer of systems for measuring concentrations in liquids, with retroactive effect from January 1, 2017.

The LiquidSens systems from SensAction, a company acquired by Endress+Hauser, determine the concentration of liquids in processes and laboratories using surface acoustic waves.

With the acquisition of the company, Endress+Hauser intends to strengthen its range of quality measurements. SensAction will retain its headquarters in Coburg, Bavaria, and the current 13 employees will continue to be employed. The company will come under the umbrella of the Endress+Hauser competence center for flow measurement technology based in Reinach, Switzerland. SensAction's devices will be integrated into the Endress+Hauser range, and in future the technology will also be combined directly with the Swiss company's flowmeters.

The SensAction systems measure the concentration of liquids with the help of acoustic surface waves - high-frequency sound waves that are comparable in their physical behavior to seismic waves, such as in an earthquake. By evaluating the transit time and wave amplitude, acoustic parameters of the liquid such as sound velocity, impedance and density can be precisely determined and - derived from this - the concentration. The systems have no moving parts and are therefore wear-free and low-maintenance.

The company was acquired with retroactive effect from January 1, 2017. Stefan Rothballer and Michael Münch, two of the company's founders, will continue to manage the company's business.
