Together with Arrow Electronics, the Mica Wireless Sensor Networks were developed to integrate wireless sensors. Arrow Electronics developed a function module that communicates with sensors via various wireless protocols. Via SmartMesh IP (Dust)/ Bluetooth Low Energy and an XBee slot, it is possible to wirelessly record and process sensor data via "Mica" independently of the existing machine control system. These protocols were chosen to give suppliers of wireless sensor technology various options for connecting their sensors to "Mica" directly or via sensor nodes. The combination of wireless sensors and the edge computing system makes it possible to monitor old existing systems (condition monitoring). Operating times, temperatures and various environmental parameters can be determined and monitored without the cost of cables, networks and expensive industrial sensors.
