VDMA publishes 'Industry 4.0 Security' guide

The VDMA has published a practical guide "Industry 4.0 Security". It is intended to enable medium-sized companies to take concrete measures and implement security requirements for their own products, machines and systems.

The members of the VDMA "Industrial Security" working group and the external project participants Accessec and Fraunhofer AISEC provided support in the creation of the guidelines.

The VDMA survey on "Industrial Security" published in 2013 found that security incidents led to production downtime in 29% of companies. "It gives us pause for thought that only 57% of companies are familiar with one of the common security standards and less than a third apply these standards," says Steffen Zimmermann, VDMA security expert. The new guidelines have now been drawn up on the basis of study results, ISO/IEC norms and industrial security standards. The central components are

  • Minimum requirements for the security of future products and services in mechanical and plant engineering
  • Recommendations for action for future production environments
  • Requirements for further training courses for industrial security

  • a tool for self-assessment of the "status quo" for SMEs.

VDMA members can order the German print edition of the publication "Leitfaden Industrie 4.0 Security - Handlungsempfehlungen für den Mittelstand" free of charge via the Internet or request the corresponding PDF document by e-mailing Biljana Gabric, stating your contact details. A nominal fee of 120 euros is payable for non-members.
