Pilz at the SPS 2023
On the safe side
The EU Machinery Regulation 2023/1230, successor to the previous Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC), is here! Pilz provides information in the form of an expert panel on what it means for machinery manufacturers and distributors.
After the new Machinery Regulation is published in the Official Journal of the European Union on June 29, 2023, machine manufacturers and operators will have 42 months (the deadline is January 20, 2027) to comply with the new requirements regarding the safety of their machines and systems. The new regulation provides more specific guidelines on how to deal with significant changes to machinery subject to mandatory testing and takes into account the growing importance of digitalization and industrial security. Visitors to the trade fair can find out more from Pilz: On all three days of the trade fair, speakers on the expert panel at the stand will explain technological and normative innovations in the field of safety and security, with a focus on the effects of the new Machinery Directive.
The topics of the presentations (in German and English) are:
- The Machinery Directive becomes the Machinery Ordinance! What will change for the user?
- Pilz's offer on the Machinery Directive
- Safety and security on the machine - the right access management
- Solenoid interlocks for process and personnel protection - the way to the right solution for the safety gate
- IO-Link Safety - intelligent and safe communication up to field level
In contrast to the Machinery Directive, the Machinery Ordinance includes the protection objective of security in the "essential health and safety requirements (EHSR)" as "protection against corruption" in addition to the pure consideration of safety. Threats to industrial security must not impair the safety functions of the machine. For some manufacturers, this has led to a revision of their previous safety and security concepts. Industrial security is seen as a particularly big challenge. Klaus Dürr, Vice President Standards Group at Pilz, says: "To help our customers master these challenges, we offer special training courses, for example the expert course 'CESA - Certified Expert for Security in Automation'." The new ISCS service - Industrial Security Consulting Service - will also be presented at SPS, which examines machines specifically for cyber weaknesses, vulnerabilities and access risks and then creates a security concept with risk mitigation strategies.
