Cyber defense directly in the mobile network

Only 53% of Germans have protection software against cyber attacks on their smartphone - despite the fact that the number of malware programs detected is increasing daily. Deutsche Telekom now wants to intercept threats in the mobile network with its security solution.

According to the German Federal Office for Information Security, there are over 15 million malware programs for the Android smartphone operating system alone. At least Deutsche Telekom mobile customers should be immune to this in future: The telecommunications group is now offering the security solution 'Protect Mobile' for smartphones in collaboration with the software company Check Point Software Technologies. At its heart is a security app that serves as an information center for the user. Protect Mobile' is designed to act like a firewall in the Telekom mobile network: Viruses, worms or Trojans are automatically detected and warded off before they can even reach the smartphone, according to the Group. Outside the mobile network, the security app provides protection by sounding the alarm in the event of threats and transparently highlighting dangers. In the mobile network, the app provides information about threats that have been averted.

In addition, the app displays error messages, warns of risks and gives the user specific instructions on what to do in the event of an error or threat. According to Deutsche Telekom, the app requires little storage space, has an intuitive user interface and hardly drains the battery.
