Industry-proven automation solutions from Pilz are already being used in classic rail applications such as point controls or level crossings, as well as in the interfaces between industrial and rail applications. With the establishment of the Rail business unit, Pilz is further strengthening its activities in the rail industry. With this independent business unit, the company is creating more resources internally in order to expand its portfolio and application engineering specifically tailored to the rail industry. In future, Pilz will also be transferring its expertise in the areas of machinery safety and operational safety regulations to operating facilities for rail transport, such as workshops or depots.

"Our industry-proven automation solutions already fully meet the requirements of the rail sector," explains Sebastian Lüke, Head of Business Unit Rail. Sebastian Lüke has been responsible for setting up the Rail business unit from the outset and now heads up the international team based at the Ostfildern headquarters. Michael Fohrer supports the Business Unit with his experience as former VDB President (Association of the German Rail Industry) and his expertise from 13 years of management responsibility at Bombardier Transportation.

In addition to the automation solutions, the automation company's expertise will also flow into rail-specific services such as project planning and project management, programming, documentation and support in the approval process. Know-how in the areas of machine safety and operational safety regulations is also required for the systems on the railroad operators' premises.
