51 billion euros in damage due to cyber attacks

In the last two years, every second company in the German industry has been the target of cyber attacks - according to Bitkom, the damage amounts to 51 billion euros per year. Who are the victims and who are the perpetrators? How badly is the mechanical and plant engineering sector affected?

For its current study "Espionage, sabotage and data theft - economic protection in the digital age",Bitkom surveyed 1,074 companies with at least ten employees, which were selected on a representative basis according to sector and size category. According to the digital association, the study is the most comprehensive empirical investigation of this topic in Germany to date. The interviews were conducted with managers who are responsible for the topic of economic protection in their company. These included managing directors and managers from the areas of corporate security, IT security, risk management and finance.
