Skids interchangeable in time

The KS Pulse (Propulsion Using Linear Synchronous Energy) is a pallet-based transport system from Kuka Systems that moves the various body parts in an automated assembly line quickly and safely through the individual workstations of a system.

The main element of the transport system is a carrier. This transports the individual body components through the assembly line with the help of different transport carriages - so-called skids. The carriers are moved through the system's process stations by linear synchronous motors. Thanks to the use of very few moving parts, the system has a low susceptibility to faults. The skids are interchangeable in the cycle so that several models can be run on one line. In addition, components such as turntables or buffer stations can be integrated into the system in order to adapt the system to individual production scenarios. The carriers, i.e. the approach to the individual stations, and collision protection are controlled by software. No additional sensors are required for precise positioning to ±0.1 mm.
