Robotics competition
RoboCup 2018 season started
The robotics competition 'RoboCup' is entering a new round. Students and pupils can once again register for the German preliminary round - the 'RoboCup German Open'. Those who qualify for the junior final will compete at the 2018 RoboCup World Championships in Canada.
The last RoboCup World Championship took place in Nagoya (Japan). In 2018, RoboCuppers from all over the world will meet in Montreal (Canada). But first, the participating teams have to qualify - the German teams, for example, via the 'RoboCup German Open', for which registration has now started.

In general, a distinction is made between 'RoboCup Major' - the competition for scientists - and 'RoboCup Junior' - the competition for young technology enthusiasts. As the number of active school teams has risen sharply in recent years, the more than 500 teams across Germany must first qualify in regional tournaments to take part in the German preliminary round - the 'RoboCup German Open' in Magdeburg. Seven qualifying tournaments will take place in spring 2018:
- at the Hamburg University of Technology on February 17 and 18, 2018
- at the Gymnasium Bad Zwischenahn from February 21 to 23, 2018
- at the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences on February 24 and 25, 2018
- at the Vöhringen Cultural Center on February 24 and 25, 2018
- at the Mannheim University of Applied Sciences on March 3 and 4, 2018
- at the University of Hanover from March 5 to 7, 2018
- at the Urania Science Center in Berlin on March 10 and 11, 2018
Online registration for these junior qualifying tournaments is open to student teams until November 30, 2017. The researcher and student teams from the RoboCup Major section have a little more time. They can register until December 15, 2017 . Registration is only possible online.
Those who qualify at one of these tournaments will meet the best RoboCup Junior teams from all over Germany at the final in Magdeburg at the end of April 2018. The German champions in the three disciplines 'OnStage', 'Rescue' and 'Soccer' will be determined there. As in the previous year, the best teams can qualify here to take part in the RoboCup World Championship - this time for the World Championship in Montreal (Canada) in summer 2018.
