Intralogistics in transition: focus on flexibility and high-tech in 2025

According to Exotec, these trends in particular will dominate the industry in 2025: increasing automation, a focus on investment security and flexibility, and the use of virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) in system planning and presentation.

Despite the ongoing uncertainties on the market, automation remains a key driver in intralogistics. The use of robots continues to grow, as they can increase efficiency, reduce error rates and compensate for labor shortages. In view of the challenges posed by disrupted supply chains, flexible and scalable solutions are also becoming increasingly important. At the same time, new standards are being set in e-commerce: Fast and precise fulfillment processes have become indispensable. Future-oriented approaches such as the use of last-mile technologies - including drones, micro freight centers and intelligent delivery networks - address the increasing demands on delivery speeds and sustainability.

VR and AR are revolutionizing logistics planning

In addition to automation solutions, technologies such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) are increasingly becoming the focus of intralogistics. They have the potential to fundamentally change the planning and presentation of logistics systems. The first companies are already using VR to present warehouse layouts and automation systems in an immersive way. This allows customers to simulate warehouse structures and carry out ergonomic tests even before systems are physically installed. Although the widespread use of such technologies may not yet be a reality in 2025, current developments offer a promising outlook.

"2025 presents intralogistics with the challenge of overcoming investment barriers and driving innovation at the same time. Resilience, flexible automation solutions and the increased use of immersive technologies could make a decisive contribution to transforming the industry and making it future-proof," summarizes Markus Schlotter, Managing Director Central and Northern Europe at Exotec.
