Entry into collaborative robotics

Almost at the same time as the official premiere at the International Robot Exhibition (iREX) in Tokyo, Mitsubishi presented the 'Melfa Cobot' at the recent SPS IPC Drives 2017 in Nuremberg.

The load capacity of the 'Melfa Cobot' is in the range of 5 to 6 kg, the reach between 800 and 1000 mm.

This is the first robot from Mitsubishi Electric with which the Japanese company is specifically entering the field of human-robot collaboration (HRC). In terms of its performance characteristics, the cobot corresponds to the company's well-known autonomous industrial robots. For example, it achieves a repeat accuracy of ±0.02 mm - despite the sensitive force-torque sensor system. The robot can be taught its new task intuitively, i.e. without any special programming knowledge, using an operating terminal with touch display that can be attached to the robot. The robot's movement is supported by the direct control mode, in which the operator moves the new robot to the position by hand in a force-controlled manner.
