Autonomous parcel delivery to the front door

The growing number of parcel deliveries is a challenge for the logistics industry. In the USA, car manufacturer Ford is working with Agility Robotics to test a new delivery option: with autonomous vehicles and the two-legged delivery robot 'Digit'.

The number of parcels being sent is increasing rapidly, particularly due to the growing popularity of online shopping: in the USA alone, the local postal service delivered over six billion parcels in 2018 - around twice the volume of ten years ago. The logistics industry is already experimenting with delivery robots and drones to relieve its parcel carriers and cope with the flood of parcels. The car manufacturer Ford is now also involved in this business: it is working with the US company Agility Robotics on new ways in which goods can be delivered autonomously in the future.
