Increasing pressure to boost productivity, shorter product life cycles, and the growing shortage of skilled workers are driving up the demand for automation solutions that can be quickly adapted to new tasks. Humanoid robotics is considered a promising approach in environments with variable applications. Robotic hands play a key role as flexible end-effectors: Many tasks in production and logistics require the handling of a wide variety of objects, shapes, and materials—requirements that often cannot be fully met with conventional grippers. Against this backdrop, Schunk and Robert Bosch Robotics are combining their expertise through a contractual development partnership. The focus is on the joint development of a prototype robot hand and the underlying technologies. The goal is to combine the experience of both companies and test the solution in specific industrial applications.

Bosch brings expertise in mechanics and precision engineering, electronics, as well as AI and software development to the collaboration. This is complemented by experience in scaling and industrialization, as well as broad industry knowledge, to integrate specific requirements into the development process at an early stage. Schunk contributes expertise in flexible gripping and automation technology, as well as approximately 20 years of experience in the development of humanoid hands. The shared goal is to develop an industrial hand that can be used flexibly with all types of humanoid robots.
