PTC introduces the latest version of the Vuforia platform for AR development, Vuforia 7. The new version introduces Model Targets, a new feature for attaching content to objects that were not recognizable with previous computer vision technology. Unlike existing methods based on detailed visual designs, Model Targets recognize objects by their shape, which are typically found on print media, product packaging and many consumer products. They can be used to attach content to objects such as cars, appliances, industrial equipment and machinery. In addition, Vuforia Ground Plane will now make it possible to place content on horizontal surfaces such as the ground, floor or tabletop. Vuforia Fusion is also being introduced - a new feature that enables the best possible AR experience on a variety of devices. Vuforia Fusion solves the problem of fragmentation in AR-enabled technologies such as cameras, sensors, chips and software frameworks like ARKit and ARCore. It recognizes the capabilities of the underlying devices and fuses them with Vuforia features. This allows developers to rely on a single Vuforia API. The new version 7 will be available with support for ARKit in the next version of Unity.
