PTC reaches takeover agreement with Kepware

With the purchase of Kepware, PTC wants to expand its IoT offering - especially in the field of industrial automation. The aim is to give users access to a company-wide knowledge base.

With the acquisition, PTC aims to accelerate its market entry in the manufacturing environment and industrial IoT (IIoT) and expand its portfolio for the Internet of Things (IoT).

Kepware provides communications software for industrial automation and serves customers in industries such as manufacturing, oil and gas, building automation, energy and utilities. The company's 'KEPServerEX' product connects various devices and control systems and provides users with a centralized source of industrial data.

Now 'KEPServerEX' will become one of the strategic building blocks of PTC's 'Thingworx' technology platform. As soon as the products of the two companies are connected, the machine data will be aggregated in the 'PTC Thingworx' platform - and then bundled with internal and external information and analyzed using the machine learning functionality of 'Thing Worx'. This should enable users to tap into a company-wide knowledge base and optimize business-critical processes on this basis.

Kepware was sold to PTC for around 100 million dollars. In the past 12 months, privately owned Kepware generated sales of around 20 million dollars.
