ABB
Takeover of B&R completed
B&R now acts as ABB's global center for machine and factory automation: The sale of B&R to ABB is legally effective following the approval of the competition authorities on July 6, 2017.
Within the ABB Group, B&R will in future be managed as an independent business unit within the Industrial Automation division. Peter Terwiesch, head of the division, and B&R Managing Director Hans Wimmer have announced extensive investments to further strengthen research and development and expand production capacities.
B&R's main focus will continue to be on OEM machine manufacturing. In addition, B&R intends to expand its product range for factory automation and, based on ABB's global presence and complementary portfolio, to make the benefits of the merger available to customers. "All contacts will remain the same for our customers," emphasizes Wimmer. B&R will also expand its expertise in the field of Industrial IoT and extend ABB's portfolio of digital solutions.
In order to be prepared for the growing demand for B&R solutions, ABB is investing in a new research and development center at the B&R headquarters in Eggelsberg (Upper Austria) as well as in the expansion of production capacities in Eggelsberg and in Gilgenberg, just a few kilometers away. In addition, 50 additional jobs will be created at B&R's Salzburg development office for the development of drive, control and communication technologies for the Industrial IoT.
