Strong result in industrial business

In the second quarter of fiscal year 2016, order intake at Siemens rose by 7% to €22.3 billion - an increase of 10% after adjusting for currency translation effects. The Group significantly improved its earnings in the Industrial Sector.

"In the second quarter, we once again delivered a convincing performance compared to both the previous year and the industry. Despite ongoing challenges in the market environment, we will consistently continue our profitable growth," said Joe Kaeser, President and CEO of Siemens AG.

Siemens was also able to increase sales by 5% to €19 billion compared to the previous year, which represents an increase of 7% excluding currency translation effects. The company delivered particularly strong figures for earnings in the industrial business (all sectors excluding Financial Services). This rose by 28% compared to the same period of the previous year to EUR 2.1 billion, with growth in most divisions (see photo gallery). This leads to a profit margin for the Industrial Business of 10.9%.

Overall, profit after tax amounted to 1.5 billion euros, down on the 3.9 billion euros of the same quarter of the previous year, which was due to capital gains of 3.0 billion euros from the sale of the hearing aid division and the Siemens stake in BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH (BSH).
