'Digital Industries' and 'Gas and Power' cause concern

Despite considerable headwinds in key markets, Siemens grew its order intake and revenue in the third quarter of 2019. EBITA and profit, on the other hand, fell, mainly due to declines in 'Digital Industries' and 'Gas and Power'. The figures in detail.

Siemens CFO Ralf P. Thomas: "At Digital Industries, we expect business to continue to weaken over the next three to four quarters - particularly in the mechanical engineering and automotive industries."

In absolute terms, Siemens was able to increase its order intake by 8% to €24.5 billion and sales by 4% to €21.3 billion in the third quarter of 2019. On a comparable basis - i.e. excluding currency translation and portfolio effects - order intake increased by 6% and sales grew by 2% compared to the same period of the previous year. At EUR 144 billion, incoming orders reached a new record level. The following image gallery provides a detailed breakdown of developments in the individual Siemens divisions - for the first time in line with the new Group structure that Siemens adopted in October 2018. As a result, large parts of the former 'Process Industries & Drives' and 'Digital Factory' divisions, for example, were merged into the new 'Digital Industries' division.

Despite the deteriorating market environment, Siemens confirms its earnings expectations for fiscal year 2019. The aim is to achieve comparable moderate growth in revenue as in 2018. The adjusted EBITA margin of the industrial business is expected to reach "the lower half of a range of 11% to 12%".
