PLC control based on Raspberry Pi

Qube Solutions is offering a new model of its Raspberry Pi-based controllers. The 'PiXtend V2-L' devices have been developed for medium to large automation projects in device and machine construction.

Compared to the previous model - the V2-S - the L version has more digital and analog inputs and outputs. The robust RS485 and CAN serial interfaces have also been added. This means that the PiXtend V2-L model can be connected to other bus systems (e.g. Modbus RTU, CANopen). The RS485 interface has an automatic switchover between send and receive direction and complies with the Modbus RTU specifications. The retain/remain memory has been increased to 64 bytes and is designed to save important operating states in the event of a power failure.

There are three models or expansion stages for the PiXtend V2 -L-:

Thanks to the long-term availability of the Raspberry Pi 3 B+ used, V2 devices can be guaranteed to be available for 10 years. A pre-certified WLAN module should save the user any unpleasant surprises when accepting their devices and machines.

All programming software previously available for the PiXtend system will also be available for the new device series from the start: Codesys V3.5, Python, C, OpenPLC, FHEM and Node-RED. FourZero will follow shortly, which should open the door to programming in accordance with IEC 61499 (distributed control systems).
