Ethics in technology
Eight international standardization organizations have founded the 'Open Community for Ethics in Autonomous and Intelligent Systems' (OCEANIS). The aim is to transparently anchor ethical aspects in the standardization of autonomous and intelligent systems.
Within the framework of OCEANIS, the standardization organizations want to work closely together worldwide to develop technical solutions that can be applied locally and globally and provide orientation for business, politics and society. The VDE is contributing its expertise in technology and innovation support. "The development of AI in autonomous systems is making great strides. This is precisely why we must now transparently anchor ethical aspects in the standardization of autonomous and intelligent systems," says Michael Teigeler, Managing Director of VDE|DKE, explaining the founding of the global forum. The technology association VDE has set itself the goal of focusing on the benefits of AI for people. "We see AI as a great opportunity and welcome the German government's initiative. However, we also recognize that we are in a time of upheaval, similar to 125 years ago when electrical engineering fundamentally changed industrial processes and the upheavals led to the founding of the VDE," adds Ansgar Hinz, CEO of the VDE.
