Westermo takes over Eltec

Westermo, a business unit of the Swedish Beijer Group and a company specializing in data communication products for mission-critical systems, has acquired Eltec Elektronik.

One of Eltec Elektronik's products is a 5G high-speed router with a combined Wi-Fi 5 Wave 2 interface for rail transportation.

"With the acquisition of Eltec, we are expanding our offering within intelligent connections in trains and metros and in the future also in streetcars and buses. Eltec has a strong position among many major European train operators. The need for modern infrastructure in public transport in general will continue to grow, and Westermo will certainly play an important role in the digitalization of the European and global train fleet," says Jenny Sjödahl, CEO of Westermo.

Eltec Elektronik, based in Mainz, Germany, offers digital network and communication solutions for mobile applications in harsh environments. The application focus is on rail and road transportation, including in the areas of train-to-ground communication and predictive maintenance. The product portfolio includes wireless access points, routers and gateways, data loggers, Ethernet switches and I/O modules.

Westermo is headquartered in Stora Sundby, Sweden. With approximately 350 employees and sales and support offices throughout Europe, the USA, Singapore, China and Australia, Westermo specializes in robust and reliable network solutions for the transportation industry, among others.
